    The entire estate covers 110 hectares in the heart of the commune of Rovereto in Gavi, of which 40 are under vine. Two single vineyard wines are produced, both of which are unoaked so the character of each vineyard shines through.

     

    Lugarara is a single vineyard at around 300 metres above sea level. Soils are grey marl with loose, sandy topsoil.

     

    The grapes (100% Cortese) were handpicked in the last week of September. Upon arrival at the winery, they were gently pressed, then cool fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Unoaked, the wine was bottled in the spring following the harvest.

     

    Straw-yellow with a greenish hue. The wine‘s pronounced aromas of stone fruit and lime peel are followed by a subtle yet persistent bouquet of green apples. The palate is well balanced with a fresh acidity and good structure. Pleasant almond notes linger on the finish.

    The Pavia brothers are great exponents of the Barbera grape.

     

    “Blina” is 100% Barbera from low yielding vines .

     

    The manual harvest took place at the end of September followed by maceration and temperature controlled fermentation in steel. This was followed by a further 12 months ageing in steel prior to bottling.


    Bright ruby red in appearance with marked purple highlights. The bouquet is intense, full and rich with scents of plum, raspberry and spice. The palate is well-strctured and smooth, with an elegant silky texture that makes the wine fresh and very approachable. Well-balanced acidity and tannins are followed by a long finish characterised by flavours of spices and red fruit.

    Michele Reverdito set up the family estate in La Mora in 2000 and currently has 40 ha of which 20 ha are under vines.

     

    100% Dolcetto from 20 year old vines grown on a south westerly exposure.

     

    Deep ruby red in colour, the nose is ripe and fruity with notes of ripe cherries, plums and raspberries. The palate is  rich with  fruity notes ending in a finish that is velvety and very  slightly bitter.

    Michele Reverdito set up the family estate in La Mora in 2000 and currently has 40 ha of which 20 ha are under vines.

     

    The Butti site is west facing and is planted with Barbera vines of some 20 years of age.

     

    Deep ruby red in colour, the nose is warm and lifted with notes of red fruit jam and hints of leather and spice . The palate  is elegant and aromatic with a good tannic structure and a long, clean finish.

    100% Barbera from low yielding vines.

     

    A 15 day maceration period with regular pumping over ensures maximum extraction of colour and fruit. The alcoholic fermentation is temperature controlled between 28-30° C followed by the malolactic fermentation in December. The wine then undergoes 12 months ageing in a combination of large (3,000 litre) Austrian oak barrels and 500 litre French (Allier) oak casks. This mix of woods adds complexity and added character to the finished wine.

     

    The final blend is put together in stainless steel vats prior to bottling and a further ageing period in bottle.

     

    Intense ruby red in the glass with purple notes, the nose is full and fragrant with masses of ripe red fruit, vanilla and spices. The palate is dry with a flinty core, round and full. The tannins are soft and well integrated with lovely balancing acidity. The finish is long with hints of tobacco and dried fruit.

    Aldo Vajra’s (pronounced Vyra) wines are characterised by pristine flavours and clearly defined perfumes. These characters are attributable to the position of his vineyards at about 400 metres above sea level in the village of Vergne in the commune of Barolo. G.D. Vajra was established in 1972 and named after Aldo’s father, Giuseppe Domenico Vajra. Aldo has been gradually increasing the area under vine to 60 hectares, of which 10 are Nebbiolo for Barolo, located in such strategic spots as Bricco delle Viole, Fossati, La Volta and Coste di Vergne. A traditionalist, Aldo adheres to old-style winemaking methods, though blends these with new techniques, such as temperature controlled fermentation, to produce such superbly elegant wines.

     

     

    The grapes were grown in six different vineyards from three different areas. Four vineyards are in Barolo, on chalky soils, facing either south-east or south-west, with vines planted between 1968 and 2004. Here the chalky soil results in delicately aromatic wines, with high acidity and red berry characters. The other two vineyards, planted in Novello and Sinio, give wines with ripe, black fruit characters, balsam and minerality, with firmer tannins.

     

     

    The Barbera was harvested in the second half of September. Fermentation lasted 15-20 days in vertical vats, with gentle punch-down and pump-overs, at a temperature below 31°C. Spontaneous malolactic fermentation followed. The wine was then aged for 12-16 months mostly in stainless-steel tanks and no more than 10% oak barrels.

     

     

    A deep violet / red colour that hints of the sweet dark fruits to follow. Powerful and rich on the nose, concentrated fruit with notes of hay, tobacco and spices. On the palate, black fruits are layered with mineral graphite notes.

    This Dolcetto is named after the two vineyards where the grapes come from, Coste di Vergne and Fossati, both in the Commune of Barolo with high altitudes ranging from 420 to 480 metres.

     

    Grapes were harvested by hand and transported in small crates to keep the grapes intact. The careful selection of grape clusters started in the vineyard and was carried out with the same attention all the way to the cellar. A soft fermentation of approximately 20 days and 8-12 months in the cellar preceded bottling.

     

    A brilliant deep violet in the glass, this wine has aromas of black cherries & flowers, with notes of liquorice and menthol. The tannins are soft for a Dolcetto, but easily able to age with time. ‘Coste e Fossati’ is elegant, balanced and complex.

    These grapes come from young Nebbiolo vines in Vajra’s own vineyards in the communes of Barolo and Novello. The vines are four to seven years old and will produce Barolo DOCG in several vintages time. This Nebbiolo is also enriched by grapes from the wonderful Roccabella vineyard in the commune of Sinio, planted on steep south-facing terraces.

     

    Fermentation lasted 15-18 days, at temperatures no higher than 29-30ºC with indigenous yeast strains and traditional daily punch downs. Malolactic fermentation followed and the wine was then aged for six months largely in stainless steel tanks, with a small portion in neutral wood, before bottling.

     

    The wine is bright ruby-red with intense notes of violet and rose, accompanied by the freshness of ripe red berry fruits on the nose. This is an elegant Nebbiolo with herbaceous notes and perfumes of roses and red berries complemented by silky tannins and delicate acidity.
