    A family winery that was founded in 1918 as Bodegas Arjona, but in 1983 the Navajas family became the sole shareholders and changed its name to Bodegas Navajas.

     

    Navajas believes that the quality of the wine begins in the vineyards and for this reason they monitor and control the vineyards which belong to their growers in the Rioja Alta and Rioja Baja.

     

    The Tinto is 95% Tempranillo & 5% Mazuelo.

     

    All the grapes are hand picked at the end of September/begining of October. Fermentation is in temperature controlled stainless steel vats using natural yeasts. The wine is blended before the malolactic fermentation takes place which is followed by a further few months ageing in steel prior to bottling.

     

    Bright cherry red in colour, the nose is full of ripe red berries and a touch of spice. The palate is dry and soft with juicy fruit, gentle tannins and fine balancing acidity.

    El Coto was founded in 1970 in Rioja Alavesa and has grown from modest beginnings into one of the best known Rioja producers. Today El Coto has over 700 hectares of vineyard in production across the three Rioja DOCa sub-zones of Rioja Alta, Rioja Baja and Rioja Alavesa. They also source grapes from all three areas, but mostly from Rioja Alavesa. Head winemaker Cesar Fernandez oversees production, starting with hand-picking into 350 kg crates to ensure the grapes arrive at the winery in pristine condition. Modern and intelligently designed, the emphasis in the winery is on temperature control and gentle handling of the grapes.

     

    This wine is made from 91%  Viura, 5% Verdejo and 4% Sauvignon Blanc from vineyards in the Rioja Alta and El Coto’s Finca Carbonera vineyard which, at 840 metres, is the highest in the entire Rioja region.

     

    The grapes, upon arrival at the winery, are protected by a carbon dioxide blanket that avoids any oxidation. The same gas is used for cooling the grapes before being gently pressed in pneumatic presses. The must is then allowed to settle before the clear juice is fermented at low temperature using selected yeasts in temperature controlled stainless steel vats – this enhances the extraction of white fruit aromas. No malolactic fermentation was allowed to take place and the wine was bottled without ageing to maximise freshness and crisp acidity.

     

    The wine is pale lemon in colour with aromas of peaches, apples, citrus and tropical fruits. On the palate, it has lively acidity leading to a dry, fruity finish.

    The grapes for the Verdejo are sourced from El Coto’s Finca Carbonera estate, which reaches 850 metres above sea level, making it the highest vineyard in Rioja and ideal for the new white grape varieties approved by the Rioja Regulatory Board. A wide diurnal temperature range aids the slow steady ripening of the grapes, meaning they retain fresh acidity and perfumed aromatics.

     

    Half of the must was cold soaked, while the other half was pressed directly under inert gas. Fermentation took place at 16ºC in stainless steel in order to retain freshness. Once alcoholic fermentation had finished, the wine remained on its lees for one month to add roundness to the palate.

     

    Pale yellow with a green hue, this wine displays aromas of fresh citrus fruits and white peach alongside floral notes. Perfumed and zingy, this elegant Verdejo culminates in a long refreshing finish.

    The Tempranillo grapes are fermented in El Coto’s  Oyón cellar in large, temperature controlled stainless steel vats that are fitted with advanced technology for the strict control of fermentation and maceration temperatures and colour extraction. The aim, to achieve the right balance between structure and balance in the wines.

     

    The wine is then aged for a minimum 12 months in selected 225 litre, American-oak barrels and then for at least 6 months in bottle before release.

     

    Bright ruby-red in colour, the fresh fruit aromas are preserved on the nose together with typical liquorice aromas from the oak and hints of vanilla. In the mouth good balance. Silky, velvety with good intensity.

    The grapes are hand picked, sorted and then fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats before the wine is aged for 14 months in a mixture of American and French oak barrels.

     

    Bright, deep red in appearance, the nose is full of ripe, juicy fruit from the Tempranillo with hints of vanilla and smoke from the oak. Rich and rounded in the mouth with fruit and spice, the wine is well balanced with soft tannins and a long finish.

    Izadi is based in Villabuena in the Rioja Alavesa, the highest part of Rioja. The hillside winery (whose precipitous slope allows for gravity assisted production) was founded in 1987 by Gonzalo Antón as a modern breakaway from the traditional style of wine produced by other members of his family.

     

    100% Garnacha (Grenache), a variety with a vibrant fruit flavour that makes it particularly well-suited for rosé winemaking. The fruit is sourced from a selection of low-yielding vineyards grown at a high altitude, 790 metres above sea level, which helps maintain both flavour concentration and delicacy in the wine.

     

    All grapes were hand-harvested. They were destemmed and softly crushed, then the free run juice was fermented in stainless steel tanks. This wine saw no malolactic fermentation or barrel ageing, to maintain the vibrancy of this rosé.

     

    This rosé has a lovely pale salmon colour. It has aromas of strawberry, raspberry and red cherries, alongside notes of white peach and pear. The finish is long and very elegant.

    All the grapes for this wine are sourced from the Finca Los Almendros Estate on stony and clay based soils.

     

    After careful sorting of the grapes, alcoholic fermentation took place at 25ºC in stainless steel tanks. The wine then underwent micro-oxygenation and malolactic fermentation. The wine was then aged for 12 months in second and third use lightly-toasted American oak.

     

    Ruby red in colour, this vibrant Garnacha displays aromas of fresh red cherry, plum and blackberry with hints of mocha and sweet spice. Juicy and well balanced with a long finish.

    Bodegas Izadi is based in Villabuena in the Rioja Alavesa, the highest part of Rioja.

     

    The hillside winery (the precipitous slope allows for gravity assisted production) was founded in 1987 by Gonzalo Anton as a modern breakaway from the traditional style of wine produced by other members of his family. As his son Lalo, who now runs the estate, says: “the whole concept of Izadi really started around wanting to produce wine to satisfy the needs of our friends over a meal”.

     

    Izadi produce modern, international wines that are true to their roots and a natural expression of the area.

     

    The grapes for the Izadi wines are grown on 178 hectares of vineyard, all of which are either owned or leased on long term contracts, so they have full control over production.

     

    Fruit for the Rioja Blanco (80% Viura and 20% Malvasia) comes from the Villabuena and Samaniego vineyards.

     

    The must was fermented in 100% new French (Bertomieu), fine grain oak casks, where it stayed for three months. Batonnage (lees stirring) took place daily for the first few weeks.

    The wine is straw yellow in colour with bright green tones. There are succulent citrus and yellow stone fruit characteristics on both the nose and the palate, this is fresh wine – well-structured with a refreshing acidity.

    The wine is then aged for 17 months in selected 225 litre, American-oak barrels and then for 3 years in bottle before release.

     

    Deep red in appearance with a hint of brown on the edge, the nose is complex with red berry aromas and smoky vanilla. The palate is round, warm and juicy with spicy red fruit and a soft richness. The gentle tannins add a firm structure and provide elegance and ageing potential.
