A family winery that was founded in 1918 as Bodegas Arjona, but in 1983 the Navajas family became the sole shareholders and changed its name to Bodegas Navajas.
Navajas believes that the quality of the wine begins in the vineyards and for this reason they monitor and control the vineyards which belong to their growers in the Rioja Alta and Rioja Baja.
The Reserva is 95% Tempranillo & 5% Mazuelo from the oldest vineyards of the Navajas Estate in La Rioja Alta, hand picked at the beginning of October.
In the winery the grapes are de-stemmed, crushed and allowed to macerate before fermentation in temperature controlled stainless steel vats. This is followed by ageing in American oak casks for a minimum of 20 months. After bottling the wine spends a further 2 years in bottle before release.
Bright brick red in appearance, the nose has a heady mix of fruit, vanilla and warming spice. The palate is rich and broad with fine fruit, integrated oak, soft tannins and spicy flavours. The finish is very long.
