Founded in 1995, Calmel & Joseph is a négociant house specializing in Languedoc-Roussillon wines from private wineries from across the region. Over the years, they have built close personal relationships with a large number of growers from all appellations. Convinced of the extraordinary potential of this region, oenologist, Laurent Calmel, and Jerome Joseph work together on the vinification, blending and ageing of wines with the common purpose of demonstrating the little known, yet unique quality of these Mediterranean terroirs.
Marselan is a relatively recent creation being a crossed variety of Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache. Developed in the early 1960’s near the southern French town of Marseillan (hence the name), today it is most widely grown in the Languedoc.
The “Villa Blanche” is 100% Marselan, traditionally vinified in temperature controlled vats followed by six months in stainless steel tanks prior to bottling.
Very dark in the glass the nose is full with intense red and black fruit aromas and hints of spice. The wine shows an interesting tautness on the palate with lovely lively acidity and a full, supple character. The tannins are silky and elegant.
