From the south of France near Sète, just down the motorway from Montpellier, Picpoul de Pinet is a refreshing, crisp, dry white wine that has become a firm favourite with so many over the last couple of years – the Muscadet of the south if you like.
Villa des Croix has a fresh and zesty nose with ozone hints that leads on to a dry and clean palate that is softer than many examples of Picpoul. The finish is long and very persistent. The perfect apéritif or ideal to accompany all seafood, light chicken dishes, pasta and salads.
The wine is made by SO Vignerons, a small, excellent outfit run by the charismatic and talented duo, Daniel Orsolini and Claude Serra. Claude, the winemaker, is also a professor at Montpelier University of Oenology.
Villa des Croix 2017 was judged “outstanding” (95-97 points) in Decanter magazine’s Picpoul tasting (April 2019)
