Isabel Estate is nestled into the heart of the Wairau Valley in Marlborough, situated at the top of the South Island of New Zealand. Marlborough is New Zealand’s largest and most successful wine producing area renowned for the production of exuberantly fruity Sauvignon Blanc and intensely aromatic wines.
Established in 1980 by Michael & Robyn Tiller, Isabel Estate has some of the oldest vines in Marlborough producing exceptional quality grapes and wines from Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Riesling. The Estate has been under the ownership of Australian drinks company Pinnacle since 2014 with Jeremy McKenzie (ex Villa Maria) is in charge of the wine making ensuring the high standards of this fine estate are maintained.
The grapes were picked during the first two weeks of April due to the fantastic weather conditions. It was decided to make two picks; a small portion early to capture varietal character and acidity, and the rest when it was ripe and balanced. Both picks were done at night to retain freshness. All blocks and picks were kept separate to maintain individuality. The fruit was fermented in stainless steel tanks with a small portion of wild ferment. The final blend was then made and bottled.
“Lush aromas of pineapple, Kaffir lime leaves, elderflower and lychee explode from the glass. The palate is rich, offering fresh green mango, passionfruit & guava. The finish is persistent and coupled with the classic Isabel wet-stone minerality, makes this wine extremely refreshing. With its balanced acidity this wine is delicious in its youth.”
