Laneberg Wine is an urban winery in Gateshead, Tyne & Wear.
Winemaker Elise Lane, who grew up in Newcastle, makes the wine from grapes grown at Walton Brook Vineyard in Leicestershire.
After studying Chemistry at Oxford, Elise moved to London and worked for a big four accountancy firm in corporate finance. Whilst there she did a couple of wine related qualifications at the WSET, but was always drawn to winemaking (and its chemistry!). A PGDip at Plumpton College, Sussex, was followed by work as an assistant winemaker in their commercial winery.
Elise moved back to the North East in 2017 (to be near family) and set up Laneberg Wine.
Bacchus is the prized grape variety for still wine in England.
Dry, it is full of elderflower aroma and peach and green apple flavours. It has complex fruity notes and a lovely zesty finish.
Recently awarded a Bronze Medal at the 2019 IWSC, the judges commented:
“Juicy conference pear with grapefruit tang perfumes, zesty and lively in the mouth, good purity and length”
